My name is Shaun Tavares I am 33 years old and live in Hawaii on the island of Maui, where I was born and raised. Proud father of two girls and husband to my wife Mandy, I am an outdoors man wether it be hunting, fishing, surfing ,or diving you can't keep me in doors. I started hunting at the age of 7 with my dad for pheasant and quail. That progressed on to rifle hunting for deer and pig. I currently have put down the gun and now am an avid bow hunter. If the water is rough you can find me in the bush. But if the water is good my true love is spearfishing. I started at the age of 10 putting around with my dad in the shallows looking for octopus and shooting any little fish that would cross my path. As things progressed I hooked up with my 2 main diving partners and the addiction began from there. I didn't have any mentors or teachers to help me grow as a diver, as Maui is a small island all the locals want to keep all the spots and secrets for them selves. I am proud to say that I am 100% self taught. Being part of a family owned business it limits me to diving only on weekends..I have countless hours of diving and scouting the grounds of maui. Every weekend you can catch me in the water as I use the ocean as a source of therapy or relaxation..its just you and mother nature out there no bosses, no phones, no traffic, that's what makes it so special. I normally use a spear gun on my spearfishing adventures but lately I have been using the Hawaiian sling or 3 prong trying to land the biggest fish possible with the hardest tool to get close to fish. I'm not going to stop until I get my name on the world record list. I currently hold 2 state records both taken with spear gun. I have been part of the HECS team since early 2016 and am a strong believer in the Hecs technology. I'm looking toward to what is to come in the future for both me and HECS.
